As the Laurier Brantford Campus approaches its eleventh anniversary, a major goal for the future should be connection, cohesion and community. Being a small campus, community is very much a reality. However, I feel as if there is still more room to grow. My vision is getting the ball rolling on a more prominent campus. Some of my ideas include looking into more Laurier owned buildings, creating more activities that link Laurier (Brantford and Waterloo) with Nipissing. Activities such as a plan to have one Winter Carnival day in Brantford, as opposed to all days in Waterloo. Activities like this will ensure connection with the campuses and provide the communication required for the future.
Through the cohesion I am proposing, I feel the Brantford students will have much more access to the Students’ Union and the University as a whole. As of right now, Brantford is very limited in the access it has. For instance, the Brantford registrars’ office does not have an official stamp. As Brantford campus has a formidable number of students, I feel it would be appropriate to have the authority to provide that to the students. That way, they do not have to spend the money to send it to Waterloo campus out of their already dwindling university student bank accounts.
An issue brought up by many of my fellow students is safety. As a member on the Brantford Campus Council, I plan to maintain the relationships between Foot Patrol, Special Constables and the Brantford Police. I plan to connect the three organizations more than they already are to provide Brantford students with the safe campus they deserve.
As a student of Wilfrid Laurier Brantford, I have an immense passion for the school and the campus I attend. It is an incredible opportunity to attend the fastest growing campus in Canada. As a member of the WLUSU Brantford Campus Council, I propose the appropriate connection for Brantford students, cohesion with not just Waterloo campus but with Nipissing and community within Laurier and within Brantford.
